MOVIE MAKER MAGAZINE MEETS THE ANGRYFILMMAKER

PORTLAND, OR – Angry Filmmaker Kelley Baker in Movie Maker magazine?  What the?

In the new online issue of Movie Maker (www.moviemaker.com/hop/vol5/02/digital.html) Baker is given a global Internet voice to vent about the current state of the “independent” world of filmmaking. Never one to mince words, Baker delivers the goods on how the entire concept of indie filmmaking has been subjugated by Hollywood. As if you didn’t know.

“I'm pissed off by the way that movies are going,” Baker says in the article that hit cyberspace today. “Independent film is a fashion statement. It doesn't mean s!@# except as a marketing tool or a label. You have people like Sophia Coppola making ‘independent’ movies.  Please!  What did her daddy do for a living?  Then you spend $10- or $15 million on a star, shoot in a foreign country, test the movie in front of audiences. That's independent?”

Baker not only talks the talk, but he walks the walk.”

Currently on tour in Texas, where Kicking Bird is being featured at The Desert Reel Film Festival, he’ll blow in to Houston to show his short films, followed by a screening in Fort Worth, and finally to Austin for a screening, a workshop, and lectures.

“Tough as it is in this business, being on the road allows me and other filmmakers the opportunity to screen films at small festivals, workshops and seminars,” the filmmaker says. “Out here at these places is where true independent filmmaking is getting shown.”

In addition to Kicking Bird, Baker has written and directed two other full-length features, BIRDDOG and THE GAS CAFE. He's toured the U.S. the last three years teaching his subversive brand of filmmaking.
