“Kicking Bird Kicks Butt!” – - Runner’s Gazette
“Baker’s characters and how they live made me squirm. The images were so real; so vivid. I wanted to do something to help.” – - Freddi Carlip, Runner’s Gazette.
Synopsis:
KICKING BIRD is the story of Martin “Bird” Johnson, a 17 year old “white trash” high school kid who runs. With his Mother in jail, his father gone, one brother in a work camp and his bitter grandfather beating him, there is nothing else to do but run! One day the manipulative high school cross country Coach sees Martin out run his entire team, (they want to beat him up), and thinks that Martin is his ticket to a college coaching position.

The Angry Filmmaker speaks:
“In December of 2002 I sent out a letter to 100 friends asking for $100 each to fund this movie. All I promised were two “really nice seats” at the premiere. Some people responded, and this group became known as “49 People Who Should Really Know Better”. This movie is a reaction to all of those so-called “Indie” films with their 5 million dollar budgets and their “stars” and marketing test screenings and all of that other Bullshit! This movie was made on less money than most of those films spend on coffee and bagels. I’m proud of this movie and I hope you like it as well. And if you don’t, I won’t be losing any sleep. I’ll just be working on my next one…”
