I just want to take a moment to thank all of the people who have helped me get this far with Dangerous: Kay Boyle. Thank you to everyone who has donated their time, equipment, money, meals, moral support, all of it over the last 28 years.
I still remember vividly in 1986 when I was trying to fund my first shoot with Kay. I made thirty or forty phone calls over a few nights and was able to raise enough money to buy film stock and a couple other things and then used my American Express card to pay for three airline tickets, a hotel for a week, a rental car and meals for myself, Chris Ley and John Campbell, who came on that adventure.
When I returned I had no money to pay the credit card bill and in the first of two times over my career AmEx canceled my card and sent me to a collection agency. That was an early form of crowd-funding long before there was such a phrase.
There have been other times when I have called on friends and industry professionals to help me out and they showed up and generously contributed their talent and time to me. I feel very lucky to have so many good friends who believe in me.
I wish I could call you all out individually but we’ll have to wait for the credits on the film. I just wanted you all to know how much I have appreciated your commitment to both me and the film. THANK YOU!
I am getting closer to completing Dangerous: Kay Boyle and I am hoping that all of you will be able to share in the joy of finally completing this labor of love with me. Thanks for having faith in me.
Now here is Kay talking about The Revolution of The Word as she accepts an honorary doctorate at Bowling Green State University (which was on the first shoot that I did with her).
