How I’m Spending My Summer Vacation & Other News
Hey Everybody,
Most of you know that in July, in conjunction with The Indy Film Co-op, I will be teaching a Masters Class in Filmmaking at the Franklin Film Institute (www.independentcinema.net), in Franklin, Indiana. It’s a three week class based on my Making the Extreme Low Budget Film Workshop. During the 3 week course we are going to make a 20 minute short. I am working on the script as we speak. (It’s kind of a Star Wars meets Middle Earth on the Titanic with Zombies, based on an obscure Shakespeare play that I am transforming in to a ballet with … okay, it’s not any of that!)
The cost for the workshop is a mere $750 if you are a member of the Indy Film Co-op, (www.indyfilmco-op.org), and $850 if you’re not, so join the Co-op, (it’s free).
We are going to go through all the steps from Pre-production through Post-production in 3 weeks. We are keeping the class to a maximum of 20 people. I have been told that the people at the Franklin Film Institute are working to get some reasonable deals on lodging for the participants. (Yes, you will have to pay for your own lodging.)
I am going to be putting my money where my mouth is. Now that ought to be fun…
Other News.
I have added a new site for my blog, www.independentfilmsdirect.com. It’s a great place to catch up on what’s going on in the independent film world. If you are a filmmaker you can have a profile and your film listed on their site. It’s free to join, but there are fees for their other services. Check it out and decide for yourself.
I have a new work book up on my site, 58 Things You Had Better Know About Sound Before Making Your First Feature. It’s The Dialog Stupid!
What good is it you ask? Well, it tells you about the 3 different types of microphones, (ribbon, dynamic, and condenser) and the 3 basic microphone pick up patterns, (omnidirectional, cardioid, and hypercardioid). It gives you helpful hints about sound design, and it says I will threaten you with physical harm if I ever hear you utter the word “sweetening” when you really mean MIX! (Sweeten is what you do to ice tea, not audio tracks!) But you probably already know all this…
This is a companion to my other work books on independent filmmaking. I have just finished it and it is available on my website, www.angryfilmmaker.com/buy.htm.
Finally, I am putting together my Fall Tour so if you are interested in having me come to your college, university, media art center, or even your house, drop me a line and let me know.
Talk later.
